Then we’ll continue our trip to visit an UNESCO World Heritage site, the archaeological site of Mycenae, located at the region of Argolis. The ancient city of Mycenae, between 1600 B.C and 1100 B.C was a major center of Greek civilization, being a strong military power and the most important and rich palatial center of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. Mycenae means ‘Rich in Gold’ and was the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon the leader of Greek in Trojan war. We’ll see the Lion’s Gate, the Cyclopean Walls, the Royal Tombs and the Treasury of Atreus. We’ll go on to Nafplio or Nauplia, the first capital of Greece in 1829. A short stop at the beautiful seaside city of Nafplio to admire the fortified islet of Bourtzi and the Venetian fortress of Palamidi.

We’ll continue. driving to Epidaurus where we’ll visit the ancient theater. Epidaurus was the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asklepios who was a healer and that was the most celebrated healing center of the ancient world. The ancient theater of Epidaurus is famous for it’s amazing acoustics which permit almost perfect intelligibility of unamplified spoken word from the proscenium or scene to all 12,000 spectators, regardless of their seating. Until now, nine cunei with eighteen rows of seats have been excavated, which originally could accommodate about 2000 spectators. All the benches and thrones of the theatre carry inscriptions with the names of the donors while implying a direct relationship of the monument with the cult of Dionysus. We’ll return back to Athens, where we’ll arrive late in the afternoon. The One day Argolis tour, is the perfect choice for the visitors of Greece.
