3 Days Classical Tour of Greece (Corinth Canal-Epidaurus-Mycenae-Olympia-Arachova-Delphi)

1st Day: ATHENS – CORINTH CANAL – EPIDAURUS – MYCENAE – OLYMPIA
Departure for the 3 Days Classical Tour of Greece, from your Athens central hotel or the terminal, early in the morning. Drive to Corinth Canal and short stop to admire the breathtaking view or to take photos. The Corinth Canal is a junction of international sea transport and serves ships coming from the western Mediterranean and Adriatic en route to eastern Mediterranean and black sea ports and vice-versa. We continue to Epidaurus to visit the ancient theater, famous for its acoustics which permit almost perfect intelligibility of unamplified spoken word from the proscenium or scene to all 12,000 spectators, regardless of their seating. We go on to Mycenae to visit the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site. On the 2nd millenium B.C. Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a strong military power. Its name was given to one of the greatest civilizations of Greek prehistory, the Mycenaean civilization.
We’ll see the Lion’s Gate, the Cyclopean Walls, the Royal Tombs, the Treasure of Atreus which is a magnificient building of 14th century B.C. Later, passing by the Peloponnesian cities of Tripolis and Megalopolis we arrive at Olympia, the birthplace of Olympic Games. Dinner and overnight in Olympia.
2nd Day: OLYMPIA – RION – ANTIRION – NAFPAKTOS – DELPHI
After breakfast at hotel, we’ll visit the archaeological site and the museum of Olympia. Olympia the most celebrated sanctuary of ancient Greece, dedicated to Zeus, the father of the gods, it sprawls over the southwest foot of Mount Kronios, at the confluence of the Alpheios and the Kladeos rivers, in a lush, green landscape. Although secluded near the west coast of the Peloponnese, Olympia became the most important religious and athletic center in Greece. Its fame rests upon the Olympic Games, the greatest national festival and a highly prestigious one world-wide, which was held every four years to honor Zeus. We’ll see the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the altar of the Olympic Games, the Stadium. We depart to Rion, where we’ll cross the Corinthian bay, by the new biggest and most modern bridge of Europe and arrive to Antirion. Passing by the beautiful city of Nafpaktos we arrive at Delphi, the navel of the world. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the mountain village of Arachova. Dinner and overnight at Delphi or Itea.
3rd Day: DELPHI – ATHENS
Breakfast at hotel and we’ll visit the UNESCO World Heritage, archaeological site and the museum of Delphi. Situated at the foot of Mount Parnassos, within the angle formed by the twin rocks of the Phaedriades, lies the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which had the most famous oracle of ancient Greece. Delphi was regarded as the center of the world.
According to mythology, it is here that the two eagles sent out by Zeus from the ends of the universe to find the navel of the world met. The sanctuary of Delphi, set within a most spectacular landscape, was for many centuries the cultural and religious center and symbol of unity for the Hellenic world and seat of the Pythian Games, the second most important games in Greece after the Olympics, which were held every four years.
We’ll see the Castalia Spring, the monument of Argive Kings, the Temple of Pronaia, the Treasury of the Athenians, the Athenian Stoa, the Polygonal Wall, the monument of Plateans and the Temple of Apollo. During of our visit at the Delphi museum we’ll admire magnificient exhibits, like the Treasure of Sifinians, the Naxian Sphinx, the statue of Antinoos, the metopes of the Athenian treasury, the bronze Charioteer dedicated to Apollo by Polyzalos the tyrant of Gela, in 478 B.C. when he won the chariot race at the Pythian games. After the visit, return to Athens early in the evening. The 3 days Classical Tour of Greece, is a great choice for all the travellers.
